Aine Of Knockaine
Aine, was a faerie queen considered to be the sweetheart of the fae.
She was a love goddess who stood in strong opposition of rape.
Her day of celebration is Midsummer eve. In Limerick, Aine, was a faerie queen.
She was goddess of cattle which would make her a goddess of plenty.
The celtic people measured their wealth in cattle which gives rise to atleast one very famouse myth about Maeve, another queen of faerie.
Some equate her to the Goddess Dana. There are several myths about her marital status and to whom she was wed.
In one version she married Manannan Mac Lir, (Manannan son of Lir) in other versions of the myth she is the wife or rape victim of Gerold Iarla.
Another name by which she is known is Aillen, an other world fertility monster.
That version of the myth probably came with the rise of christianity when the place for the feminine in spirituality evaporated and perverse old men with problems with their own manhood came to power.
Her story is one of power.
She is a reminder that who ever we may marry or be victimized by life is always full of plenty from which we can draw strength and at the very least rule our own lives.
